Formentera presents the new ‘4x10K Team Race
Formentera will host this Saturday, May 9th, the premiere of the Formentera 4x10K Team Race, a new sporting proposal that will bring together more than 400 runners in an innovative competition that focuses on a collective format and a shared experience. The event, organized with the aim of diversifying the island’s sporting offer and continuing to position Formentera as an active tourism destination, features a team format of four members, in which each participant will complete a distance of 10 kilometers, adding up individual times for the final classification.
The start will take place at 6:00 PM from the Passeig de la Marina, in La Savina, while the finish line will be located at the Antoni Blanc Sports Center in Sant Francesc Xavier, following an urban and interurban route that combines stretches of asphalt and consolidated paths on a circuit completely closed to traffic.
The Formentera 4x10K Team Race is born with a vocation for continuity and the goal of establishing itself as a reference event within the sporting calendar of the Balearic Islands, promoting values such as teamwork, self-improvement, and the enjoyment of the island’s natural environment.
In addition to the competitive component, the race will feature various services for participants, such as aid stations along the route, medical assistance, a cloakroom, and a recovery area at the finish line, guaranteeing a complete experience for both runners and companions.
The presentation of this new event was held this morning at the headquarters of the Consell de Formentera, with the presence of the President of the Consell de Formentera, Óscar Portas; the Minister of Sports, Hugo Martínez; the Minister of Tourism, Artal Mayans; David Prior, from Trasmapi; Lourdes Costa, director of CaixaBank in Formentera; and Manuel Hernández, director of Unisport Consulting.
The Minister of Sports, Hugo Martínez, highlighted that this new event “is born with the aim of becoming a reference race within the island’s sporting calendar, combining competition and participation through an innovative format that encourages teamwork and broadens the participant profile, opening the door to both regular athletes and a more amateur public.” Along these lines, Martínez added that initiatives like this contribute to positioning Formentera “as a quality sporting destination, generating activity outside of peak months and providing added value to the island’s overall tourism offer.”
On behalf of the event organizers, Manuel Hernández highlighted the great reception of this first edition, reflected in the participation of more than 400 athletes, and underlined the positive impact that this type of event generates at both a sporting and tourism level. “In just one week we will have this team race and then the Half Marathon, offering a first-class sporting selection in Formentera,” he stated.
With this new event, Formentera reinforces its commitment to sport as a driver for promotion and revitalization, consolidating its image as a unique setting for outdoor sports.
